Connsmitten Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 18, 2026
The short version
- Connsmitten helps you practice conversations and get feedback on them.
- To do that, we collect your account details, what you type or say in practice, and how you use the app.
- Your practice content goes to AI providers to generate your feedback; in the iOS app, after you agree there.
- We use analytics and session replay to find bugs and improve the app. We hide what you type. The iOS app records your screen only if you allow it, and in the EU, the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland the website asks before using cookies or recording.
- On the website, we tell Meta and Google when a visit from one of our ads leads to a sign-up or a purchase, so we can see which ads work. You can turn that off, and in the EU, the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland we ask first.
- You can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
Who we are
Connsmitten ("we", "us") is based in the United States. Contact us about privacy, or anything else, at support@connsmitten.com.
What we collect
Account details. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name, your email address (or an Apple private relay address, if you choose one), and an account identifier, plus your profile picture from Google. When you sign in with a code we email you instead, we collect the email address you enter.
Practice content. What you type or say in lessons and practice conversations (voice recordings and their transcripts), your answers to the setup questions (such as what you want to get better at and how confident you feel), your lesson results, and the feedback generated for you.
Purchases. Your subscription plan and status. Payments are handled by Stripe on the web, Apple on iOS, and Google on Android; we never see your full card number. In the iOS app, our subscription provider receives the subscription offers you see, your purchases, device details (model, operating system, app version, language), and a random identifier for your account. Our analytics provider also records when you start a free trial, pay, cancel a trial, or get a refund, with the plan and amount, linked to your account; on the website, only if analytics were on when you subscribed.
Usage and device data. Through our analytics provider we collect how you use the app (screens viewed, buttons tapped, features used), session replays (a reconstruction of your screen while you use the app; what you type is hidden, and in the iOS app so are pictures, but other text on screen, such as feedback, can appear), error and crash reports, and device and browser details (model, operating system, app version, language). We derive your approximate location (city and country) from your IP address. When and how we collect it depends on where you are; see the next section.
Support messages and feedback. What you send to support@connsmitten.com or in reply to our emails, and feedback you send in the app: your message, the line or coach's feedback it is about, and any screenshots or pictures you add. Feedback you speak is turned into text.
App waitlist. If you ask us to tell you when the iPhone or Android app is out, your email address and which phone you picked.
Cookies and similar technologies
The website and the iOS app use these categories. You can choose each one except the first.
- Needed to run the site. Keeps you signed in and remembers your choices. Always on.
- Analytics. Our analytics provider (PostHog) counts visits, screens, and taps, using a random ID kept in a cookie and local storage on the website, or on your device in the app.
- Session recording. PostHog records clicks, scrolls, and what is on screen so we can see where people get stuck. What you type is hidden.
- Advertising and attribution. On the website only. Meta's pixel and Google's tag (Google Analytics) receive the pages you visit and a few steps you take: starting the questions, signing up, seeing the plans, and starting a free trial or a subscription, along with your browser's details and their own cookie IDs. When you're signed in, Meta's pixel also receives your email address and account ID, scrambled (hashed) first. When you start a free trial, subscribe, or finish your third lesson, our server also tells Meta. It sends your IP address and, scrambled (hashed) first, your email address, name, account ID, and approximate location (city, region, postal code, and country, worked out from your IP address), so Meta can match it to the ad you saw. We use this to see which ads work, and Meta uses it to decide who sees our ads.
On the website in the EU, the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, a banner asks first, and every category starts off. Until you choose, and if you say no, no analytics, recording, or advertising tools run in your browser. We tell where you are from your IP address and your device's time zone.
On the website everywhere else, every category starts on, and a notice at the bottom of the page says so. Recording starts once you keep using the site with the notice on screen. You can turn any category off under "See details" or on the Account page. We treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as a request to opt out of sharing for advertising, and turn that category off.
In the iOS app, analytics keep a random ID on your device. The app records your screen only after you tap Allow, which it asks right after you sign up, and you can turn recording off on the Account tab.
We keep your choices in your browser's local storage or on your device, and may ask again from time to time.
How we use it
| Use | Data | Legal basis (EU and UK) |
|---|---|---|
| Create and secure your account | Account details | Performing our contract with you |
| Run lessons and practice, and generate feedback | Practice content | Performing our contract with you |
| Process subscriptions | Purchases, account details | Performing our contract with you |
| Fix errors and keep the service secure | Usage and device data | Our legitimate interest in a working, secure service |
| Understand and improve the app, its lessons, and its feedback | Usage and device data, setup answers, practice content, purchases | Your consent where the law requires it (EU and UK); otherwise our legitimate interest in improving the app |
| See which of our ads work (website) | Usage and device data, IP address, approximate location, and hashed email, name, and account ID | Your consent where the law requires it (EU and UK); otherwise our legitimate interest in knowing which ads work |
| Answer support requests and act on feedback | Support messages and feedback, account details | Performing our contract with you |
| Email you about Connsmitten, such as when the app for your phone is out, new features, and offers; every such email lets you unsubscribe | Account details, app waitlist email | Your consent where the law requires it; otherwise our legitimate interest in telling you about Connsmitten |
We need your account details and practice content to provide the service; you can't use Connsmitten without them.
We combine first answer choices into question totals. Public totals appear only after at least 100 learners have answered that version of a question. They contain no names or individual answers. These anonymous totals remain when an account is deleted.
AI processing
When you practice, the content you submit (your recordings, messages, and transcripts) is sent to third-party AI providers, which turn your recordings into text, write the other side of the conversation and your coach's feedback, and speak them aloud: AssemblyAI, Groq, Google (Gemini), and OpenAI.
The iOS app asks for your permission before sending anything and names the providers there. You can withdraw that permission on the app's account page at any time; features that need AI then stop working in the app until you allow it again.
Feedback is generated by AI and can be wrong. See the Terms of Service.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers that run parts of Connsmitten on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it at least as well as this policy does:
- hosting and database providers;
- AI providers (see above);
- analytics, session replay, and error tracking;
- payment processors, app stores, and our subscription provider (Stripe, Apple, Google, Superwall);
- advertising partners, Meta and Google, as described under "Advertising and attribution" above, while that category is on;
- email providers, for support, sign-in codes, and the other emails we send.
We also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or to a successor if Connsmitten's business is transferred, for example to a company formed to run it.
What the advertising category sends to Meta and Google can count as selling or sharing personal information, or as targeted advertising, under some US state laws. To opt out, turn advertising off under "Cookie choices" at the bottom of the website or on the Account page, or send a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser, which we treat the same way. We don't respond to "Do Not Track" signals, which have no agreed meaning; Global Privacy Control covers the same choice.
Where your data is processed
We and our providers process data in the United States. If you use Connsmitten from elsewhere, your data is processed there.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists and as long as we need it for the uses above. Purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires. When you delete your account, we delete your data from our systems and ask our providers to delete their copies, except records the law requires us to keep. You can also ask us to delete anything else, such as an app waitlist email.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in the app's settings. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, cancel there first; deleting your account doesn't cancel their billing.
- Withdraw AI permission on the iOS app's account page.
- Unsubscribe from our emails about Connsmitten with the link in any of them. Sign-in emails come only when you ask for a code.
- Change your cookie choices under "Cookie choices" on the website's Account page, and turn session recording off on the iOS app's Account tab.
- Access, correct, export, or delete your information, or object to or restrict how we use it, by emailing support@connsmitten.com. We respond within the time the law requires.
- Complain to a regulator. In the EU or UK you can complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk). We would appreciate the chance to fix it first.
Children
Connsmitten is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. No service is perfectly secure, so we can't promise that it will never be accessed without permission.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy and will post the update here with a new effective date. Where the law requires it, we'll tell you about a significant change or ask for your consent.
